Charles Stross - one of my favorite SF authors - wrote about steampunk in his blog a while ago. He puts my unease concerning this fad into words. If you know something is wrong when someone romanticizes top hats, corsets, rampant industrialization and colonization, but just can't figure out the right arguments, then this is the text to go to.
